With Mobius Megatar, customizing pickups and electronics is easy. Choose from a number of great pickups and sound options --
Custom ‘Flat Top’ Dual Rail Pickups Used on the TrueTapper Eclipse, a Dual Rail design of pickup gives a clear and powerful tone, similar in design to pickups commonly used on Fender Stratocaster guitars. However, our custom pickups have a flat top on the two rails. This enables the pickup to be positioned beneath the strings so as to get a more even volume response across the strings.
Sharp-Looking ‘Gold-Case’ pickups If you want a pickup to sound warmer, you can use a fatter and wider coil, and also you can wrap a metal case around the pickup. These give a fatter and rounder tone, and it’s this design of pickup we use in the TrueTapper Dragon models. In addition, the Gold-Case pickups have individual adjustable pole pieces beneath each string. This allows for fine-tuning the perceived volume output from the string, so you can adjust the instrument to the frequency response of your particular amplifier. So you get a warmer and fatter (and slightly rougher) sound that’s great for all kinds of music, and you get even more control over attaining an even volume response across your strings.
World-Famous Bartolini Pickups What can we say? Many people consider Bartolini to be the best pickups in the world. We do not know how Bill Bartolini engineers these pickups, but the magnetic field appears to rise higher above the pickup, and somehow the tone is both clear ... and rich. For warm fat lows, and clear and driving highs, the Bartolini pickups just cannot be beat. World famous, and for good reason.
Custom Bartolini Dual 'Active Circuit' Preamps Mobius Megatar instruments ordered through the factory are custom-assembled to your specification, and as an option on any instrument using Bartolini world-class pickups, we can install Bill Bartolini's dual preamp inside the instrument, to boost the signal before it travels over the cable(s) to your amplifier. This prevents the sonic loss that always occurs as your sound travels from instrument to amp over a cable. As a result, all the rich harmonics present in the string and in the pickup are delivered to the amplifier. The enhancement of sound is outstanding.
The other benefits are:-
No treble loss, even at low volume settings
Cavernous deep bass, sparkling chords, and clear solo lines
Reduced background noise, so you have less crackle or hiss entering your amp and your effects. (Less noise to be amplified!) This is especially beneficial on touch-style instruments where typically your incoming gain is set higher and your playing is lighter than on normal, picked guitar or bass.
All effects work better, giving you smoother sustain, and crisp attack.
Included with this factory custom installation, we will build a flip-out 9-volt battery box into the rear of your instrument's body, so there is no searching for a screwdriver needed, and battery can be replaced in only a couple of seconds.
Bill Bartolini's outstanding preamps are then Mobius-configured to deliver a boosted signal with no alteration of frequency, so that you have total control over your sound at the effects and amplifier level. This stronger but unchanged signal also means better entry into effects racks designed for synthesizer inputs or for entry straight into mixing boards, if that is your pleasure.
Battery life is extended in two ways. First, Bartolini's preamps are designed to operate with economical battery use. If left on 24 hours a day, the battery would last for several months. But to give even greater battery life, we customize the instrument to use two separate output jacks (instead of the usual single stereo output jack). Then each of the output jacks is wired as an off/on switch, so that your preamps draw current only when you have a cable plugged in. So you turn the instrument on when you jack in, and you turn the instrument off when you jack out!
And as part of the package, we'll deliver your instrument with dual 'ClearCable' mono output cables. These outstanding cables use Japanese oxygen-free Canara cable, and highest quality German Neutrik connectors, for the absolute best transmission qualities available in a guitar cable
The “Hammer of Thor” Pickups Array -- The Hammer of Thor can flatten anything. It’s actually three instruments in one -- First, active Bartolini pickups with dual outputs. Second, dual Graph Tech ‘Acoustiphonic’ piezo sound, which can be switched or blended with the warm sound of the Bartolini magnetic pickups. Third, dual Graph Tech ‘Hexpander’ 13-pin MIDI-ready outjacks will enable you to drive a midi brain and synthesizers, or the lightning-fast tracking of the Roland multi-string modellers.
The Hammer of Thor can be built upon the fanned frets of the ToneWeaver to obtain the tonal advantage only fanned-frets can provide. Or alternately, the Hammer can be built on our MaxTapper, to enable you to use unconventional tunings (like the Chapman Stick tuning, or uncrossed string arrangement, for example). Pictured here is the ToneWeaver Hammer of Thor, with BlackJack trim --
HAMMER OF THOR CONTROLS -- On the RIGHT SIDE, at the top, nested tone/volume pots control magnetic sound. Just below, dual audio outjacks give you the switched/blended magnetic piezo sound. Further down on the right side, dual 13-pin MIDI-ready outjacks for melody and for bass strings. On the LEFT SIDE, at the top, dual tone/volume pots for Graph Tech ‘Acoustiphonic’ piezo sound for a crisp, full frequency sound, both lovely and uncommon in guitars. Further down two ‘quick switch’ selectors enable you to choose magnetic sound, piezo sound, or middle position allows you to blend the two sounds, using tone/volume pots like a mini mixer. Sounds can be switched or mixed independently for melody and bass. Just below, two ‘MIDI volume’ knobs, and at the bottom two ‘MIDI patch select’ switches. It’s three instruments in one: Magnetic, Piezo, and MIDI. The Hammer. It can flatten anything.
Custom 'Stereo/Mono' Switch -- If you have the occasion where it would be useful for your instrument to have a single audio output which delivered both the bass and the melody output, then on any instrument ordered through the factory, we can provide this custom modification. On the instrument's face will be added a simple toggle switch.
If you switch the toggle switch 'UP', then the bass signal will be added to the melody signal, and both signals, combined, will be available to the 'melody' cable'.
If you switch the toggle switch 'DOWN', then the bass signal goes as usual to the bass cable.
(Stereo/Mono toggle switch can be seen in the bench photos of pickups array shown above.)
