Fanned-Frets for Tone Power!

The ToneWeaver is designed to give the best possible tone. The ToneWeaver is built of premium woods, and is equipped with dual or quad Bartolini pickups for masterful tone.

Features: The ToneWeaver features the same premium woods as the MaxTapper, which give a warmer, more 'round,' and a somewhat 'darker' tone. Mahogany or sapele neck-through construction, and rich rosewood or wenge fretboard that feels great to the fingers.

The unique feature of the ToneWeaver is that it's equipped with the patented Ralph Novak 'Fanned Frets' System. The frets look odd because they are arranged on a slant upon the fretboard. (Oddly, they don't feel very different to the fingers.)

This makes the bass strings longer from end to end, compared to other instruments. And on the ToneWeaver, the melody strings are shorter end to end. The reason for doing it this way is simply that LONG bass strings sound better, and SHORT melody (guitar) strings sound better. That's why basses are usually long, and guitars are usually short.

Now, for the first time on a touch-style instrument, we can improve tone -- it adds depth and penetration to the bass, and clarity to the melody -- and this tone improvement is made possible by our licensing of Novak's patent.

  • ToneWeaver 'Dual' has one Bartolini pickup for bass and another Bartolini for melody. Graph Tech custom nut and saddles of exotic 'StringSaver' material extend sustain and enrich the sound. Optionally choose Graph Tech 'Tusq' for a brighter tone. Either way, you get the masterful, fat, and rich tone that will delight any professional.

  • ToneWeaver 'Quad' has two Bartolini pickups for the bass, and two more for melody. Switch-selectable, select either front pickup, rear pickup, or both. For example, on the melody side you might select the mellower front pickup when playing background, and then kick in both pickups for your solo. On the bass side, you might use the front pickup for a rounder, softer sound, or the rear pickup for more 'groan-tone.'

The fanned frets may sound odd to hear about; but it sounds mighty good to hear music on it! Deeper bass, a vast rich tone with more body and authority. And the melody? Sweeter, and more clear, seeming to float.

Purpose: Because The ToneWeaver is our premium instrument, it will perhaps be favored by high-end players, and frankly, folks with more budget. Professional bass players who need the power, the depth, and best possible tone may prefer its sound.

This musician may be a professional bass player, or he may just be interested in the bass. Rock guitarists who play a lot of melody high on the neck may prefer this instrument because the high melody will be smoother and more penetrating. This will be a monster instrument for jazz or blues
