Soundclips Featuring MidiTapper

 Soundclip Set #1:
Short clips featuring a variety of rhythms and sounds, to give an idea of what you can do with the MidiTapper. Recordings were made in one pass using a MidiTapper Twin with the Bi-Melody tuning, driving a Roland GR33 guitar synthesizer and a Roland VG88 V-Guitar system. The player is Rick Wade of Las Vegas; the MidiTapper is his regular gig axe. (See recording notes following for more information and bio.)

Does the MidiTapper track well? Just listen to the electric piano in 'Rhodes Groove' and the lead voice in 'SlapBass Solo' and the bass on 'Da Blues'. And can you get good bass sounds from 'Bi-Melody' strings? Just listen to the basses -- all played on melody strings. Is that Bass in Yo' Face?

Higher Fidelity (MP3 format, 128 Kbps, cd quality, stereo):

Soundclip Set #2:
This recording is a song from one of the email newsletter lessons called 'True Bossa'. The soundclip was recorded in two passes, and features two Mobius tapping basses:

  • On the first pass, a ToneWeaver bass (with the standard FourBart pickup array) lays down bass and rhythm guitar tracks. The ToneWeaver is tuned in the standard 'Bass Bottom' tuning. This is an example of playing 'Rhythm Bass', meaning a bassline with simultaneous rhythmic chords. In this case, the left hand is playing bass strings in the 'true bossa' rhythm, and the right hand is playing rhythmic bossa chords. Both sides are going through Johnson J-Stations modeling common amplifiers.
  • On the second pass of this recording, the Mobius MidiTapper Twin was used to play lush strings and melody. The MidiTapper Twin is tuned in our standard 'Bi-Melody' tuning, so both sets of strings are tuned high. The left hand is playing slow chords on the 'bass' string set. If you listen very closely you will hear the natural string sound, and at the same time, a lush string pad from the Roland Guitar Synthesizer. The right hand is playing melody through the Roland V-Guitar system.

Recording Notes and Cautions --

  • These sound clips were digitally recorded at 24 bits, at a 44,100 kHz sample rate.

  • Take these recordings as approximate. The encoding process for internet delivery loses some of the original sound, and in some cases increases or decreases relative volume levels.

  • Rick Wade, the artist for the first set of clips, is a professional bassist, for many years performing in Las Vegas' top venues, and with some of the biggest names in musical entertainment. Rick took the MidiTapper Twin for a spin with a Yamaha drum machine, all live two-handed touch-style, and started recording. One pass, live. No magnetic pickups were used, only the Photon-Midi pickups driving Synth and V-Guitar voices.
