The modular-design Mobius Megatar bass (US Patent# D441,391) is built in a modular fashion to to permit easy adaptation of your instrument to your music. We offer ‘Semi-Custom’ assembly with many options (see ‘Options’ section), and if you wish to modify your instrument, it’s designed to make modification easier.
For example, the pickup array is a single-assembly unit, and a wide choice is available, so when you order an instrument it’s easy for us to assemble exactly the pickups you want.
Instruments are currently available in two varieties of woods: the light-colored maple/alder instruments provide a brighter sound, and the darker mahogany/sapele instruments provide a darker, richer, and mellower sound.
The use of exotic materials in the nut and the string saddles can dramatically change your sound. Often overlooked, the nut and saddle provide the 'contact point' which greatly affects vibration and the ultimate tone of the string. We offer custom nut and string saddles in exotic materials, a powerful way to personalize your sound.
If you are a guitar-builder and wish to build custom pickups of your own, you'll discover abundant free space within the pickguard cavity. Further, the large pickup cavity is completely shielded, creating a complete ‘Faraday cage’ to guard against induced 'AC-hum' broadcast by florescent lights and electric motors such as refrigerators.
In modular fashion, the bridge is of standard 'Strat' design, allowing easy customization with other bridges and saddles if desired.
Mobius bass instruments standardly come tuned with normal 6-string bass strings in fourths. Fourths tuning is familiar, and easier for scalar passages like walking bass. It is faster to learn than other tunings, simpler to visualize, and you can train both hands simultaneously.
However, if you want other tunings, many others are available, including the 'Inverted-Fifths' bass tuning popularized by Emmett Chapman, Daniel Schell's 'Mirror Fourths,' the Uncrossed String Arrangement popularized by Wolfgang Daiss, and exotic tunings such as major or minor thirds.
The Support System of the megatar is designed so that you can use one support in one performance, and a different support for a different performance. Need to play sitting? Experience the comfort of the MegBar! Need to play while leaping about? Use the MegStrap! Quick-change artistry? Yes!
